The sight distance, angle of intersection, and close proximity of other intersections make the intersection shown below the most dangerous intersection within the Barre Common area. The traffic pattern depicted below provides a dramatic improvement to this dangerous intersection. Additionally, this change will create a much safer pedestrian environment by calming the traffic and requiring pedestrians to focus in only one direction when crossing the street between these Commons.

The current plan has been specifically designed to allow tractor-trailer trucks to safely make the turns from Mechanic Street up and on to Rte 122 in both directions. An additional measure has also been taken to extend the stop line at the end of Mechanic Street to allow vehicles to stop on flatter ground.
